Setting Your DISH DVR System Update Time

Setting Your DISH DVR System Update Time

I found out how to set your DISH DVR Hopper system update time, you know, that time when your Dish TV system reboots itself.

It's about time! I can't tell you how often I've been watching TV and when 1 AM rolls around, no matter what I'm doing, the system does a reboot during it's daily update check. Gads, I hate that.  Regardless of whether you're watching a DVR recording, live TV or what have you, bam, that menu pop up comes on your screen.

Every now and then you have the option to delay the update, but I'd guess at least half the time, the system is going to do what its going to do. I think I may not be looking when the option comes up to delay it... I think.

Grr. Or... I hated that.

But thankfully, (after how many years?), Dish has provided a way to at least set what time your DVR system is going to look for or update itself.

All you have to to do change your update time is
--Get to your primary system MENU,
--Choose SETTINGS,
--Select POWER.

In the POWER window* you'll have a few options,

---POWER ON - choose an option on what the system will show you when you turn the TV on.

---INACTIVITY STANDBY -

---DAILY RESET - Here you can set what time of day the system will do its thing.

Boom... there you have it.

*I wouldn't call this the most intuitive location for the option... trust me, I scrolled around and explored my menu windows, but never thought to look under 'Power!'

  1. Agree. Mine does it more than once a day, never at off times of us watching.

    1. Amen to that. Tech support is worthless. If you’re lucky enough to find an English speaking tech they usually can’t help.

  5. I guess I'm lucky. I set mine to update at 4 a.m. and that is when it updates. AND, it is only once a day. I've never had a problem with it updating more than once a day. You also need to set the time you want it to update off of your main receiver.

  6. Thank you very much for the info. Dish never helped me and I couldn't find where to change the update time. I was pulling my hair out and I am bald! Thank You again

  7. Mine doesn't even give me the option to change the reset time. That choice won't "highlight." Wish I could change providers but Dish is it where I live.

    3. It must be done on the main Hopper box. You cannot change it on any other box, it will be dimmed to let you know you can't change it. However I set mine for 4 am and it still does it when it feels like it.

  8. Thanks! I'd looked all over and couldn't find it. As above, I never thought "Power" would be the place to look. Online directions tell you to push options that never show up.

  9. I had mine set for 7AM but like clockwork it goes OFF at 4PM, it just did it at 9:30PM. WTH?

  10. I have mine set for 5am. It goes off at any time of the day! It wouldn't be so bad if it would just take the 5 minutes it says it will take. Tonight it lasted 45 minutes...it would come back on, so I would go back to what I had been watching. Instead of coming back on, the screen would go black and start all over again...repeat for 45 minutes!

  12. I set to three am - called and they set it at three am. Still does it all during my morning news time. Going to search for other options now. Got rid of satellite internet awhile back. Maybe there is local option for TV too.

  13. It never reboots at the time I have set. Does it while recording or just watching tv.
