My Android Phone Locked Up, What To Do

My Android Phone Locked Up, What To Do

The other day my Android based Samsung S6 locked up, with the screen frozen in place. (Previously, it was also off and would not turn on, so the following method works for both conditions, at least for me.)

The last screen I was using was in my face and the fully charged LED was on. So I unplugged it, but the LED did not go away like it usually does. And I could not get rid of the screen interface.

This shows you how to hard restart your Android phone.

The phone was reluctant to do anything for me, no matter what tone I was using or verbal threats I made. (It knows I won't throw it in the road or a lake, but it's fun to threaten it, because one of its brethren did find itself liberated from existence in a violent fashion.)

Once I realized no amount of threats will work, I then tried a common method to wake up many phoned, by holding down the power button for an elongated amount of time.

After about a minute, I deduced that this was not going to work for me either. Grr.

So the other option for unlocking my Samsung was to do some form of the following:

.

  • - Press and hold the Power button for more than 20 seconds.
  • - Press and hold the Volume Up button for a few seconds and without releasing the Volume button, press and hold the Power button until your screen displays something.*
  • - Press and hold the Volume Up button for a few seconds and without releasing the Volume button, press and hold the Power AND Home buttons until your screen displays something.*
  • - Press and hold the Volume Down button for a few seconds, and without letting go of the Volume button, press and hold your Power button (totally 2 buttons) until your screen displays something.*
  • - Press and hold your Volume Down button for a few seconds and without letting the Volume down button go, press and hold your Power button + Home button until your screen displays something.*
  • - Press and hold Volume up + Volume down + Power buttons until your screen displays something.*
  • - If you get anything (such as Download mode) on the screen, you can just press and hold the power button to reboot normally. It is not necessary to do anything else.

*Bring a magnifying glass:  For me, that 'something' seems to be a diagnostic screen that pops up that has the TINIEST font ever! Look carefully and you'll see you have, or at least I had three options, and one of them was to reboot normally.

Good luck, I hope this helps.

If you can't undo your stuck phone, go to the store that you bought if from, if you can. Or your nearest brand dealer that's your brand.

If you have other suggestions or ideas that worked, let us know in the comments and we'll add them to this article.
